Chapter 9

Electronic Commerce

I am familiar with the first part of this chapter.  I didn’t know it was called E-commerce or the terms of B2B, B2C, C2C, or C2B but as I read on, I started to realize myself or my family has used C2C and B2C often.  We are involved with online retail and dot-com companies.  We, like many other people in the country have an Amazon Prime account.  I also like to shop at Fanatics.com for new sports gear.  My family has several subscriptions to various sites including Netflix, Hulu, YouTube TV, etc.  My mom uses Facebook marketplace to sell items in C2C market.  My dad has used an intermediary site like TurboTax each year when tax season arrives.  He used to look on Expedia when trying to book a vacation, but he now disintermediated travel and books everything himself.  He also used eBay auction to purchase some items in the past but nothing recently.  However, when it comes to paying, they don’t use a digital wallet.  They still enter their credit card usually and in public uses near field communication with the tap system.  I don’t have a Facebook account, but my mom does, and I asked her if she got ads about stuff she had looked up and she said, yes, I think the computer listens to my voice sometimes.  I explained to her that it is because she accepts cookies on those sites that track her clickstream.  No one in our house remembers looking up sites from other countries but it is good to know the proper etiquette when browsing.  I’m sure we will at some point need to expand our search outside the US for something.
